Type of track:
Forest timber roads - gravel surface.
Length:
4.5, 6 or 8 miles
Begin at:
Kilmahog. Car park on Trossachs road, right hand side about 300 yards beyond the Lade Inn..
Description:
Follow the timber road above the car park for about 2.5 miles. Great views over Loch Lubnaig to Strathyre and Glen Ample with Ben Vorlich and Stuc a Chroin in view beyond. On the left some stunning views of Ben Ledi. After about 2.5 miles you cross the hill track leading to Ben Ledi.
Option 1, 4.5 miles total: Turn right at the Ben Ledi hill track for a lovely peaceful trip down through woodlands and plantations to the Stank car park. If on a bike remember to lower the saddle here as it's a bit steep with gulleys crossing the track - you might want to get off quickly!
Option 2, 6 miles total: Continue past the Ben Ledi track, cross a bridge , up a short slope and ignoring the left turn continue to descend via a series on zigzags to the lochside.
Option 3, 8 miles total: Take the left hand turn (above) and climb to the highest point with views in all directions. Continue on this track to a low point at a small bridge over the Stank burn. Continue on this track ignoring all left turns to descend eventually to the lochside beyond the Forest Cabins.
For all options: when you get to the lochside, turn right and follow the C7 cycleway on the old rail track-bed all the way back to Kilmahog. Visit the falls on Leny on your left where you find a seat in the centre of the track. Look out for deer, squirrels and water fowl.
