Type of track:
Part tarmac then rough track and landrover track. Walk or cycle.
Length:
7 miles
Begin at:
Callander Main Street at the Glasgow Road crossroads (at the traffic lights)
Description:
From the crossroads near the centre of Callander in The Trossachs take the Glasgow road over the river Leny and continue 1/4 mile to the InverTrossachs mini roundabout. Turn left and then look for a break in a low wall on the right where a gravel path leads up a steep slope. Follow this track and on your way look to the right for a great view of the Trossachs hills. Keep left at a fork and after 1/2 a mile the track veers left through the trees to emerge onto a wider forest track. Continue on this turning neither left or right until you emerge from the trees at a T junction - keep left. About 100 m after the trees a new track turns sharply back to the right to climb a steepish slope - take this track and follow about 1/2 mile without turning off this track to another T junction. Turn right up the hill and follow to cross a locked gate then proceed to the summit of Ben Gullipen for fabulous views north to the Highlands across Loch Venachar in the Trossachs. The highland Trossachs cattle are usually around here somewhere. Return by the same route.
