Trossachs Tracks - Bealach nam Bo

Type of track: Part tarmac then rough track - sometimes wet. Rough track not suitable for bicycle but tarmac part OK.
Length: 3 miles
Begin at:
Start at a small car park about half a mile from Loch Achray on the Trossachs Pier Road.
The car park is next to the Loch Katrine Dam Road on the left.

Description:
Go up the Loch Katrine dam road for about half a mile then look for a track on the left crossing a lovely arched bridge over the 'water of Achray'. Cross the bridge, not forgetting to take that photo, and follow up the slope to a timber road. Turn left and keep going, ignoring tempting tracks on the left - they lead to Ben Venue. A very wet stretch and a stile are negotiated before the ground rises to allow you to proceed on firmer ground along a very narrow track - take note of the stile on your right - that's the way back.. As the track rises the Bealach Nam Bo comes into sight - a rocky bluff high above the Loch but with the all important dip - the bealach - which allowed the cattle through. You can scramble all the way up to the bealach and enjoy marvellous views over the Trossachs, Loch Katrine and sometimes - the old steamer. Return to the stile you saw earlier, cross the fence here and ignoring the faint track on the left, take the right fork which leads down to the dam which can be safely crossed. A couple of dogs behind a high fence will create a load of noise but they can't get out. Follow the road back to the car park.
